Health Club Safety with Identification Cards

ID Badges at Your Health Club

If you have a health club membership, you probably have a health club ID card, as well. This is to identify you as a member, and to keep people who have not purchased a membership out of the gym. This is not just to protect their investment. People who have purchased a membership have signed a contract that spells out the ins and outs of liability. If a person who has not signed that contract is using the gym equipment and gets injured, they are not covered by the same liability agreement. This is the main reason that gyms and health clubs issue ID cards or ID badges to their members. If the health club you are thinking about joining does not issue ID cards, you might want to re-think joining that particular health club. It means that security is not a high priority for them.

Of course, once the front desk employees get to know you, they might not require you to have your ID badge on hand at the gym. But it is still a good idea to have it with you at all times, because you never know when someone new will begin working at the health club and if they don't know you, they might want to see your ID, proving that you are a member of the gym. Likewise, if you see someone you have never seen at the gym before and they don't appear to have an ID badge, there is nothing wrong with alerting health club employees to their presence.

Health Club Employees

Health club employees need to have ID badges, as well. This allows you to know who actually works at the health club, because most employees dress in workout clothes along with the gym patrons. A good health club or gym will issue standard ID badges to all the employees so that you can identify the personal trainers, massage therapists, and maintenance people at a glance. This way, you know you are getting personal training advice from someone who has experience and training in that area instead of the guy who likes to think he is a personal trainer but is simply someone who just hangs around the gym equipment a lot. You are paying for experienced personnel, so you should be able to see who is trained to help you do what.

Anyone who spends a lot of time in their health club expects a certain level of security. The whole reason you pay for a membership is to have the privilege of using the facility. People who don't pay for the privilege should not be allowed to use the facility. This is why health club IDs are such a good idea. Security is something that should not be taken for granted these days. The use of ID badges protects everyone, and people should not be affronted that their gym or health club requires them to have proper ID on them or at least with them in their locker when they are working out.
