3 Para: A Saga of Sacrifice and Bravery!
All the book lovers would surely have some time to rejoice as they can find their favourite book 3 Para by Patrick Bishop on the World Wide Web. Based on the true accounts of the British soldiers who were deployed in Afghanistan in the summer of 2006, in the height of Taliban regime in a battlegroup called 3 Para, the British soldiers showed an unflinching courage in this widely unreported and brave saga. The conditions were adverse. With parched faces, these soldiers were bravely enduring a 50 degree Celsius temperature that made them sweat and drained their energy. These Bristish troops were posted at Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan.
The story starts when the 3 Para group is sent to the Afghanistan, a place which was epitome of adversities in terms of climate, social circumstances, and location. They had been given the task of providing security to the efforts of reconstruction of the state in the post Taliban regime. And since peace was reinforced in the region, 3 Para always thought that the whole operation would go peacefully without a single gun shot. But there was something else which was stored for them. 3 Para witnessed a continuous combat in these six month. The battle would never seem to stop. The campaign couldn't heave a sigh of relieve during this time. Taliban had conspired to drive all of them out from the region in defiance. But the troops fought all of it, tactfully and steadily without stopping for even a single day.
And the price paid by 3 Para was too much to ask for. They had to pay 14 of their soldiers and one interpreter, who died at the battlefield along with 46 soldiers who were badly wounded in this operation. But the triumph was theirs. And it was dully recognised by the British government and they were rewarded with an array of gallantry awards including the prestigious Victoria cross, to commemorate their sacrifice
So, 3 Para makes an interesting read for all the readers!
