Cats Behavior Can Be Altered

Although your cat has behaved well in the past, it has recently begun peeing in one corner of the bedroom closet. It seems that your cat may be compulsively preening itself, as it has licked some spots on its fur so much that there is now no fur left there to lick. It has gotten so bad that some friends have asked if the cat has feline leukemia, assuming, no doubt, that the hair loss is a result of chemotherapy. Your cats behavior can be curbed or even cured with some very effective and gentle behavior modifying techniques. These techniques along with praise and petting will go a long way in making life with your furry feline easier and stress free. There are many good books as well as magazine publications available which help you to train your cat. Many websites are dedicated to cats and study of cat psychology and they have many articles which will help you to correct your cat's behavior. They have advice on all the common and a few uncommon ways in which cats misbehave. Cats will often scratch their claws on your furniture and curtains. It is very natural for a cat, it helps keep their claws trimmed and they enjoy the workout. If you view your cat scratch a piece that they should not, the best discipline is to squirt them with water and say "No!" sternly. A cat will scratch on appropriate objects versus your furniture if they are provided. You can buy prefabricated scratching posts. If you are feeling creative, you can also build one yourself. Cats adore catnip, so rub the post to give it that scent. The scent will wear off over time, but he will get used to using the post. He will eventually learn that he should use the post instead of your furniture when he feels the need to scratch. Cat owners often find themselves bothered when kitty's boisterous activity keeps them up at night. Cats are nocturnal creatures, and are compelled by their instinct to think that the best time for hunting is night time. It's easy for a cat owner to believe that if they get up and play with their cat, tiring them out, that kitty will go to bed. In fact, this method doesn't work. It is only teaching the cat to wake up their owner each night for yet another round of entertainment. If your cat does not allow you to get restful sleep at night, try beginning his fun time earlier in the day. When you get home, spend time playing with him right away. With luck, this will get him into an earlier routine and playing alone. Some people believe that a cat's behavior cannot be changed in some way like one can do for a dog. It is true that the cat will not learn to understand your commands like bringing a brewsky from the fridge. However if you devote some time, you can change your cat's naughty habits which will make your life less stressful and pleasant.
