Why computer stores are closing fast in favour of online sales
There are so many cheap sites out there now I'm amazed anyone buys hardware from shops any more. I own one myself and admit that with this article I'm hoping to boost my sales. The thing is I know that where I live the cheapest I can get a 19" monitor for instance is £145 while I can sell them on line for £119 and thats a widescreen my site http://www.ponty-computers.co.uk. I'm guessing that a lot of the extra costs to shops go into the cost of keeping the shop going. I accept that a lot of these places pay rent and so on but really the profit margins they work on must still be enormous.
As far as I know near us there is only 1 store still going, there were originally 3 but it seems that the competition from online sales must be too much, hardly surprising when you realise the difference in price. Even with postage you can still save approximately 10 to 20% on some items.
A lot of these sites, mine included offer membership even though it's not compulsory and you can still buy items without one. The advantages are that you will get emails letting you know of our offers every month and I have a page of extra discounts for members only. Just one of the items on page http://www.ponty-computers.co.uk/monitors is a 22" monitor that is £184 (£249 is cheapest at ou nearest store), but even thats down to £174 for our members this month. It seems that business for local stores is only going to get worse as online prices drop.
About the Author: Hi, I'm Julian, I used to be a driver, lorries, taxis, courier etc but I have always wanted to do something in computers. My chance came when I found out how cheap hardware was to get online compared to stores so I set up a website, http://www.ponty-computers.co.uk and now hope tomake a go of it.
