What Are my Student Finance Options
Attention all college and pre-college students: Do not believe for one second that taking out a loan is the only way you can pay for college! When you need financial aid there are better ways to get it than taking out a loan. Loans are hard to pay back because of the fact that their interest is eternally increasing. Rather than take out a loan, apply for a scholarship or grant instead!
The amazing thing about scholarships and grants is that they never have to be repaid. Nevertheless, you must set aside some time to search and apply for them.
Scholarships can be found just about everywhere. Several organizations and businesses like the Lions Club, Optimist, Chamber of Commerce and the Girls & Boys Club offer scholarships to students. Scholarships are offered by the military, and certain churches and unions also.
The internet is great resource for finding scholarships. Simply search for scholarships on any search engine. Or check out FastWeb.com. This website will help you locate scholarships that fit you!
A good deal of the scholarships found here require you to write a paper. Dont worry about this! Find one that suites you and then have a seat and begin typing. Before you send it in, make sure that you have a family member or friend proofread it.
To find other scholarships check the college that you are applying for. Frequently they give scholarships to those with good GPAs or ACT scores. They will award scholarships for athletic abilities as well.
If you havent graduated from high school yet, ask the Financial Aid office if they know of any scholarships you could apply for. Your counselor would also be a great person to ask, since theyll will know know your needs better.
The most important thing to do is to begin immediately. Start looking around and asking around for scholarships.
Grants, like scholarships, never have to be repaid. They are given depending your special interests, ethnicity, or financial need. You can apply for grants through private groups, educational institutions, and the federal government.
Federal government grants are given based on the financial state of the student. In order to apply for one you must go to FAFSA.com and fill out an application or you can get one from your high school or college financial aid office. Depending on the method you used to apply, your Student Aid Report will reach you in approximately three to six weeks.
