Today recordable media is an important device for a lot of computer users because the data storage is essential for many purposes. So these data storage devices that are used for recording (storing) information (data) are needed. Generally recording can be done using virtually any form of energy. The main functions of a storage device are to hold information and/or to process information. While a device that only holds information is called a recording medium, a device that processes information can be either a separate portable (removable) recording medium or a permanent component. This permanent component is usually used to store and retrieve information.
In general the electronic data storage is the storage procedure that requires electrical power in order to store and retrieve data. Furthermore the most storage devices do not require visual optics in order to read data. Such devices fall into the category of electronic data storage. Another format in which electronic data can be stored is either the analog or the digital signal format. This type of data is considered to be electronically encoded data. Generally most of the electronic data storage media is a permanent storage. Therefore the data will remain stored when power is removed from the device. Typically electronic data storage is easier to revise and it may be more cost effective in comparison to alternative methods. This can be explained with the smaller physical space requirements and the ease of replacing (rewriting) data on the same medium. In order to store data several storage devices can be found. A storage device can be explained as the equipment that accesses (reads and writes) storage information. Generally data storage equipment uses either portable methods, semi-portable methods or inseparable methods.
