Using Mirrors for Interior Decorating
Mirrors are an essential for every home. No longer limited to bathrooms and vanities, mirrors now adorn the walls of hallways, dining rooms and living rooms for a decorative aesthetic that adds an illusion of depth and space. Available with or without decorative frames, mirrors add to the environment of your home and are considered a low to no maintenance case good.
Depending on what kind of decorative framing you have around your landscape or full-length mirror, you’ll convey a certain mood for that particular room. If your intent is to illustrate a sense of wealth and glamour, consider a Baroque-styled frame with botanical details. If you prefer the conventional, low-key latter, choose a simple dark-colored wood frame that divides your mirror into three sections for a reflective triptych.
With the right placement of your mirror, you can either add a traditional or contemporary flair to your home. Placing a large landscape mirror over your mantle in your family parlor or living room creates a homely, peaceful ambience. In addition, it helps creates a sophisticated atmosphere while adding an illusion of length to a small space.
If you desire a contemporary aesthetic, consider placing a vertical mirror in the corner of a room, preferably so that it faces your yard or a window. This arrangement beautifully reflects the sunlight coming into your home, adding natural light to your setting. For an even more artistic approach, hang four to five smaller mirrors, mixing and matching up the shapes and sizes if you wish, in a sporadic pattern or cluster along your walls. This visually playful distribution works well with any amount of space you have, adding a fun air for your home.
Decidedly, mirrors are no longer limited strictly to walls; etageres or display cases even include a mirror backing to reflect your treasured item, flower vase or sculpture. Adding intensity to the object, mirrored etageres allow you to view your treasures from different angles without fear of physically damaging them. A gorgeous accent for any home, take advantage of using mirrors to heighten the ambience and reflect the beauty of your home.
