Home Security-Home Invasion-Five Seconds Can Change Your Life!

You see and hear about it every day-home invasions. They are on the rise. A home invasion is when robbers force their way into an occupied home to commit a robbery or other crimes. It is frightening because it violates our private space-our sanctuary.Five Seconds that all it takes to get in.

Most police agencies and the FBI will statistically record the crime as a residential burglary or a robbery. Without the ability to track the specific crime of home invasion, little can be done to alert the public as to the frequency of occurrence in their community or devise a law enforcement plan of action to control it.

Residential burglars work mostly during the day and when a residence is more likely to be unoccupied.

• They tend to work alone

• They avoid confrontation and violence

• They are deterred by minimal precautionary measures-alarm signs etc.

Home invasion robbers, in contrast, work more often at night and on weekends when homes are more likely to be occupied.

• They rarely work alone

• They target occupants as well as the home based on perceived "wealth"

• They use confrontation, violence and domination as part of their procedure

• They may have been in the home before as a delivery man etc.

The most common entry point for a home invader is the front door. If the occupants are home it is a safe bet for the invaders that the alarm or camera will be off. So they use force or subterfuge to get in without any fear of outside discovery.

Sadly many people simply open the door in answer to a knock or a bell making entry very easy. FIVE SECONDS is all it takes to get in.

Once inside the house it will be nice and quiet unlike a retail store. The invaders can force their will, be it simply robbing the house or more often rape, assault, kidnapping even murder.

Many of the same ideas used to prevent daytime burglaries will go a long way to prevent forced entry home robberies. Time is of the essence. If you can delay them long enough to call police you might save yourself. Solid core doors and strong deadbolt locks with reinforced strike plates, and reinforced window devices will stop most forced entries. FIVE SECONDS IS ALL IT TAKES TO GET IN!

It is also a great idea to have several non lethal self defense weapons located throughout the house-stun guns, pepper sprays, etc. Knowing how to use them and acting quickly could save your family.
