How To Effectively Deal With Relationship Stress - Part 1
Dealing with relationship stress can be challenging and difficult. It can be exhausting and draining especially if you are the only one in the relationship working at it. You can effectively deal with relationship stress in many different ways. Sometimes the most effective ways involve discovering and learning more about yourself.
1. How well do you know yourself? Take stock of who you are. You should know yourself better than anyone else. Are you willing to admit what your needs, wants and desires truly are? You will never have what you want if you can't be honest with yourself. What are your values? What do you believe in? This is what defines you. Know yourself.
2. Avoid engaging in "needy" relationships. Choose healthy relationships. Needy relationships can drain the life out of you. Needy people are takers, not givers. They will dump on you as long as you let them and rarely will they be there when you need them. They aren't strong enough to help themselves, how will they ever help you? Focus on healthy relationships with people that have inner strength. These relationships will be mutually beneficial.
3. When in doubt, go slow in a relationship. Be careful not to rush into the emotion of a new relationship. Let the relationship develop as it will building a solid foundation. Too often we give way too much of ourselves early on before we recognize and are able to deal with the relationship stress that is developing.
4. Help good relationships develop by letting them run their course naturally. Be the one in the relationship that controls where it is headed. Don't let it gain momentum before its time.
5. Practice open communication from the start. Make it clear to your partner that honest and open communication is a must. Don't be afraid to express yourself and be sure your partner knows that it is alright for them to express themselves as well. Practice what you preach.
