Infidelity in Marriage: How to Cope with a Cheating Spouse

Infidelity touches 80% of all marriages. Sadly, many people are not even aware that it is happening in their marriage until quite a bit of time has passed. Men and women recovering from infidelity go through similar recovery stages and share a common need for support and marital counseling if they wish to rebuild their relationship. Infidelity is the sine qua non of divorce.

Infidelity hits people in different ways, some angry, some calm acceptance while others are stunned, she was stunned into shock. It is not a simple problem and it cannot be fixed with a simple cure, though that is what we most often desire. Sometimes a marriage can appear perfect from the outside, when the reality is that the unspeakable act has in fact taken place.

Affairs are most likely to happen during these phases in a couple's life cycle. They generally involve sex, at least enough sex to create a secret that seals the conspiratorial alliance of the affair, and makes the relationship tense, dangerous, and thus exciting. Most affairs consist of a little bad sex and hours on the telephone. Affairs are traps that always lead to emotional disaster. It is like being caught in a web spawned by deception, deceit, disloyalty, and a mystifying kind of love.

Affairs are, unfortunately, one of the biggest reasons for separation and divorce these days. That is why it is a good idea to understand what you can do today to help affair-proof your marriage in the years to come. If you suspect that your spouse is cheating on you, don't let those feelings go. There is nothing wrong with being more aware of your spouse's actions. Marriage is a difficult thing to sustain, it takes a lifetime of comittment and love.
