Get Smart, shop on the internet.

Recently I bought a discount LCD television. Ok, some of you are saying 'so what?'. But some of you will know where I'm going with this already. I didn't go to a local store, I bought my new LCD television on the internet. I didn't even walk to my local store to check out the goods on offer. Let me explain.

In recent articles I've talked about using the internet as a doorway into the world of shopping but each time I've emphasised one point - you can always sample the goods inside a store and then go home and order online. Let me explain the change in my approach.

Most buyers already have an idea of what they want when they go shopping for luxuries i.e the LCD television needs to be black, HD ready, not wider than 1m and no higher than 1m (rough figures only). As you can see from the example you already know pretty much what you want. Now we get down to the nit picking.

Admittedly, there are a huge number of sites offering you discount this, discount that...ad infinitum. But you need to be smart. Yes, the price is a big factor for many of us but does a manufacturers description give you enough information to make a definite decisions? Probably not. Reaching a deliberation point like this is enought to send most shoppers into town to look at the desired product. But why do this? There are ample resources on the internet that will give you all the answers you need - search the internet for 'user reviews of '. And I mean user reviews. Don't be fooled by manufacturers reviews - they're out to sell as many units as possible so of course they'll say it's the best product on the market.

Typically, most decent user review sites will have voting options and a forum. Search the site for your specific product, note the pros and cons in the voting and comments sections. Best of all, you can ask site users who already have the product you want what their thoughts are.

You see, it's easy. The internet is probably one of the greatest inventions mankind has produced - we just need to keep pushing the boundaries in order for it to grow.
