Getting Truly Prepared for Your Trade Shows
You’re about to head off to a tradeshow and you find out one of your people is sick and can’t make it. You get there and notice that you grabbed the wrong kind of color business cards. The company that was supposed to handle your brochure printing and deliver them to the show is behind schedule and can’t make it on time.
Anything and everything is going wrong for you.
While this might be a bit extreme, I’m sure plenty of us have been in the position of seeing some pretty terrible mess-ups at the worst possible moment.
You can’t really stop every potential problem that’s going to come along, but what you can do is be prepared for when the time comes.
The first and best defense against such disastrous mistakes is the people who work for you. Everything is going to succeed based on these people sent to represent you. No matter how much money you spend on business card printing or brochure printing and no matter how great those custom business cards are that you plan on handing out, if the person who is there to represent you doesn’t know what they’re doing, marketing material alone won’t save you.
Make sure everyone is properly trained and everyone is aware of what they need to do. There’s no reason to send under qualified people to be the face of your business.
Furthermore, if they know how to handle the situation, when the difficult situation comes up and you can’t seem to find those color business cards you swore you brought with you, they’ll be more prepared to handle the situation and repair the damage.
The next thing you need to do is make sure that you have a safety net. Carry all of your information saved on a CD or laptop so if you do need to run out to do some last minute business card printing you’ll have the custom business card designs all there and ready.
When the unfortunate problem does occur, whatever it may be, make sure you don’t panic. Step back to assess the situation and figure out the best course of action. Assigning someone as a leader of your team will help in coordinating people faster for the last minute save.
And one thing you definitely don’t want to do is freeze up when the problem happens. If you don’t look like you’re in control of the situation the people under you won’t be as effective.
Don’t just plan on everything as if it’s going to go exactly as you plan. When you’re running off your checklist of things to do, make sure you’re also considering all the problems that might pop up. You can’t plan for everything, but if you make sure you’re aware of the potential for trouble, you won’t be caught unaware when it comes your way.
