OLIVE OIL – This is one of the greatest oils to use for healthy eating, now when I first started eating healthy, I bought the light olive oil and I guess that wasn’t all bad, as it got me use to it, however, I am heer to encourage you to use extra-virgin oil and then also, organic. Then you will be embracing Food as Medicine. There are some tips you need to know about olive for it to retain its healthy qualities. One is not to overheat it as you will kill all the health benefits, and it can become rancid and create toxic chemicals. Extra-virgin olive oil starts to burn at 320 degrees, so spritz your food and heat slowly and on low heat, actually it is best used on non-cooked foods.

The oil I use, which also follows the guide lines of UltraMetabolism Diet, is sesame seed oil, as it can be heated to 400 degrees without loosing its healthy properties and it gives your food a delightful nutty taste which is also Food as Medicine, and oh so good.

PRODUCE TIP: Berries: Store in the fridge. If they are in an open container, put a dry paper towel over the top. If they are in plastic, leave them in the container. Don’t wash them until you are ready to use. Blueberries should keep about a week. Raspberries and strawberries a few days. Blueberries can be put on a cookie sheet, laid out in a single layer and frozen, then separate into baggies for individual use in smoothies etc. All berries in their natural state are Food as Medicine.
