Miley Cyrus Should Be Embarrassed

Miley Cyrus, known to many people as Hannah Montana, is embarrassed over her latest scandal to hit the Internet. Cyrus recently got into trouble when pictures of her were “leaked” onto the web. These pictures showed an inch of Miley’s green bra and some bare midriff. Some would call these pictures “lame,” including myself, but they still caused a major controversy because of the amount of concerned parents out there who view Miley as a positive role model for their young daughters. Parents tend to get riled up over small things like this.

This week Miley is involved in a new scandal, and this one actually has some merit as far as scandals go. Miley posed for the magazine Vanity Fair, and while the pictures taken would be nothing for most female celebrities, they’re somewhat provocative for a 15-year old girl. The main picture in question shows Miley wearing nothing, covered in a bed sheet. She has no clothes on but the bed sheet covers everything except her shoulder.

People on the Internet have argued over how provocative these pictures really are. We see much worse on a daily basis thanks to gossip sites and magazines like Maxim. But when you think about it, it is kind of weird to photograph a 15-year old girl wearing nothing but a bed sheet. I mean, people on Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator” episodes get arrested for less than that. You might be wondering, “why didn’t Miley or her parents put a stop to this as it was happening?” According to Cyrus, she thought the pictures were artistic and well-done. But now that she has seen the final pictures, she’s unhappy. Miley even apologized to her fans, saying the pictures were “embarrassing.” Isn’t it funny how she decided they were embarrassing after it became a PR nightmare?

Vanity Fair and the photographer have taken the stance that the photos are artistic as well. I’m no family values expert but how is taking pictures of a naked 15-year old artistic. Where I come from that kind of “art” gets you sent away for 20 years. I mean when does it even cross a photographer’s head that taking nude pictures of a 15-year old girl is a good idea? Granted, these pictures aren’t that provocative, but the idea that someone planned this out is a little frightening. Have we gotten that callous as a society that we don’t see the potential harm in photographing a 15-year old in a bed sheet?

And let’s talk about the real tragedy here. The pictures look terrible. Miley looks like a ghost. It’s truly awful. If you’re going to exploit a 15-year old girl to cause a scandal and gain publicity for a magazine, don’t you at least want to make sure the pictures look good?

Miley Cyrus should be embarrassed.

One thing that’s not embarrassing, however, is getting Hannah Montana ringtones and other AT&T ringtones on your cell phone.
