The Unique Problems Of Being Overweight And A Teenager
It is an unfortunate fact that overweight teenagers usually grow into overweight adults; early intervention can avoid tragic health problems for them in the future including any academic success they may aspire too. Whilst it is important for a young person to have self confidence and self respect during their formative teenage years, this is sadly not going to be the case if they feel they do not fit into the ‘norm' category with their school mates. Teen weight loss programs are being used to teach them about the health issues involved including how it affects their attitude towards themselves and others.
If left unchecked, weight problems will mean they will have physical and emotional problems in their adult lives as well. Unfortunately being overweight can lead to major future health problems including:
- Heart problems
- Conditions associated with poor circulation
- Late onset diabetes
- Joint problems
A teen weight loss regime can perhaps avoid these problems. Mentally, the repercussions are probably more obvious because who doesn't remember an overweight child at school that got saddled with some of those awful nicknames like fatty, piggy, porky and tubby plus many more that were even less courteous.
Unfortunately, these names seem to stick with the person all their life and even if they are successful at controlling their weight problem, names seem to stay which is another blow to the persons self image. Many parents do not know what to do in these circumstances but as this condition of overweight teenagers is becoming more prevalent, these parents are not as isolated as they once were. Not only is obesity becoming a global problem but it is affecting increasing numbers of young people and many companies have become very successful at selling weight loss products for adults and teens, but not all of them work.
It must be instilled early on that teen weight loss programs are not just about losing weight but about the reduction of body fat which is the main problem to overcome. Although many parents may show worry about the situation, they should be aware that this weight gain did not happen in the course of a few days so it will take time to lose it safely. If you are concerned about your child then learn about the subject of teen weight loss; If you are concerned about your child then learn about the subject of teen weight loss.
Care is required as some teen weight loss programs (and adult for that matter) can actually be harmful especially as they have not yet finished growing. Those regimes that advocate the starvation method should be avoided as whilst weight will be lost, it will not be achieved healthily. It is more important and ultimately more effective if your teen can lose body fat which will help to ensure a long term reduction in weight.
