Your Blog-To HTML or not to HTML?

Blogging has taken talking mouths by storm. Talking? What's that? When I want to tell my friends big news, like the birth of my first child, I'll save my vocal chords the trouble and just type up a few amusing anecdotes about the birth, along with detailed pictures and sound bytes.

Or not. Blogging isn't for everything. I would hope the good old-fashioned phone is still good for something. But if you are looking to spread your wings into the blogging storm and are searching for a launching pad, the first thing you'll ask is, should I go html?

Whether you are Starting a political blog or a cooking blog, you need to decide between a Blog builder and html. There are advantages to both the Blog builder (non-html) and an html blog.

To not HTML

With the Blog builder you barely have to think. The Blog builder does all the html work for you, behind the scenes, and you never have to see all that icky code. (I'm assuming here that you would rather not deal with html.) If, on the other hand, you enjoy squeezing your brain into minute and senseless code language, you may be annoyed with the Blog builder, for the control it maintains. There are only so many design templates the Blog builder allows you to choose.

However, the Blog builder's design options are usually enough. If you are Starting a political blog you likely do not care about presenting a uniquely artistic design, so one of the Blog builder designs should suit your needs. For an artistic blog, your design needs may be different from what the Blog builder provides. This depends on your taste.

The main advantage of the Blog builder is time saved. In a matter of minutes, and usually for only a nominal fee, you can have your blog up and running. All that is required of you is selecting a template and filling out some basic information. Most of us don't have complicated design needs that would go beyond what a basic Blog builder can supply. Smooth and seamless is what you get when you start a blog with a builder.

To HTML

Ultimate control is what you get with HTML. When you build your blog with HTML, it is just like building a website with HTML. You need the skills but once you have them, once you have all that code secured in your brain, there are no limits on your blog. You don't need to follow a template set up by a Blog builder because you can create a unique blog yourself. Arranging exactly where you want a logo, a picture, a box of text, all can happen if you understand HTML.

Another advantage to HTML is advertising. Most blog builders do not allow or limit the amount of advertising you can place in your blog. If you are a major blogger, you'll want the bucks that advertising can get you. With no contract signed to a blogging company, you can do as much or as little advertising as you wish.

Only you can answer the existential question of this millennium: To HTML or not to HTML?
