What to Get the Teacher? Forget Apples

Each year that we pull out the Christmas ornaments, I notice that a good two thirds of the ornaments are apples of one variation or another. I will thank my parents for that. They were both teachers in the public school system, for 35 years combined. Although our Christmas fir reliably looks unseasonably fruity, I appreciate the tradition of apple giving. The apple is simple, sweet, and pure, a symbol of a gift of the earth. Despite my sentiment for golden delicious and granny smith, I must admit my parents loved it whenever a student gave them something different, like a piece of art. It was rewarding for them to see a watercolor or collage of some sort created by a student.

Having your child create a gift is a great plan, but if you want to save some time during the holiday season, you may want to consider buying a piece of art instead. With artists increasingly putting their wares on Internet, you have access to millions of pieces of affordable art.

It can be overwhelming to shop on the Internet though. Where should one begin on the Internet odyssey of gift searching? I type in "teacher gift" on Google and receive over one million websites. I could be wading through these sites for days, and how do I know if I can trust to buy from the website? I want something special, and beautiful, with guaranteed quality. Not something shipped to me by an eBay seller in Indonesia.

Finally, I found something I have never seen before. Handcrafted in the United States, Whimsical Watches creates watches with themes by profession. For the teacher watch I can choose from four different designs. Yes, there are apples in the design, but so much more. The "teacher gold watch" has a tiny red apple, a tiny ruler, little stars, a clock, and the most adorable set of scissors I have ever seen. I can also choose the "preschool teacher gold watch" with a miniature teddy bear, figures, and yes, again the beloved red apple. Now what about the other person who helps your kids regularly? School bus drivers deserve appreciation and encouragement too, and the "school bus driver gold watch" has a cute yellow bus, and instead of an apple, a stop sign!

I am surprised that Whimsical Watches has so much variety in their designs. In addition to teacher watches, they design in categories of animals, astrology, collectibles, food, fundraising, Greek, hobbies, holidays, jewelry, kids, mom, grandma, music, dance, religious, seasonal, special occasions, sports and "world's best." There is something here for everyone, even a nurse watch for the nurse who helps your grandma out.

A unique watch like this might make a great gift. Most people do not like their watches. They usually buy from the local mall, and unless they have a lot of money to spend, their watch is drab in appearance. It seems the creative choices at the mall involve two options: metal or leather. I do not own a watch because I have never found an affordable watch that I liked. I also find that watches and jewelry in general are not encouraging people to have fun. Whimsical Watches is changing the trend of watches, embracing a playfully fun spirit within a classy gold frame.
